Facebook updates its messaging platform

After updating Messenger to 2.0 recently, Facebook is now bringing new CTAs and a seamless payment flow with Messenger Platform version 2.1.

Facebook officially turned Messenger into a platform two years ago at F8, and since then it has been making big changes, both monetising it, and making it a much more effective tool for businesses. Now, Facebook is updating its Messenger Platform to version 2.1, adding even more options.

An important update with this version of the Platform is a seamless payments flow that comes within a new SDK that launched last week. Up until now, payments had only been tested on the platform, and have only been available in the U.S.

The second important update is in the form of new CTA buttons that will be added in addition to the “Send Message” CTA that was already available. Finally, the company also added desktop support for the extensions SDK.

The new CTA options in include, Shop Now, Get Support, Get Updates, Play Now, and Get Started, and help users understand what to expect when starting conversations with businesses on the platform. Support for the extensions SDK on desktop is meant to make some other important features and functions available to users on desktop as well, as opposed to only mobile users.
