O! 4G coverage nears a third of Kyrgyz population

Kyrgyzstan’s Nur Telecom, operating under the ‘O!’ brand, has announced that its 4G LTE network – launched three years ago – now covers a population of over two million, in more than 100 localities around the country, following an expansion drive this year which has seen its number of 4G base stations increased by 70%. TeleGeography notes that the coverage figures mean that the 800MHz/2600MHz LTE network now reaches nearly one-third of Kyrgyzstan’s total population. O! adds that alongside the recent rapid geographical expansion, the capacity of its LTE-800 base stations was doubled by allocating additional frequencies. O! says recent LTE user take-up has been driven by increasing smartphone usage and its ‘unlimited’ mobile data packages. The cellco currently sits in third place in terms of total mobile subscriber numbers behind MegaCom and Beeline Kyrgyzstan, but with a respectable – more than a quarter – slice of the market.
