The proportion of Moroccan households with internet access increased to 68.5 percent in 2016, up by 2 percentage points since 2015, according to a national representative survey carried out by national regulator ANRT. Take-up among rural households (51.3%) remained significantly lower than in urban areas (77.2%). The internet is still mainly accessed via mobile rather than fixed technologies. Mobile internet penetration among Moroccan homes increased by 1.5 percentage point to reach 66.5 percent, while the take-up rate of fixed internet, such as ADSL and Wi-Fi, rose by 4.4 points.
