70% of AT&T Mexico customers using LTE network

In an official blog post, Carlos Sanchez, AT&T Mexico’s CTO, has disclosed that the cellco’s 4G LTE network now covers a total of 85 million people, meaning that the US-backed firm is on track to cover 100 million people by the end of 2018. In addition, the executive noted that 70% of its total user base is now connected to its LTE network via smartphones. AT&T claimed 12.606 million Mexican mobile customers at 31 March 2017, suggesting that the operator’s 4G base is in the region of 8.824 million.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, AT&T Mexico’s 4G rollout commenced in earnest in July 2015, and the network went live in October that year, in just six cities, eventually passing the 100-city mark in September 2016. Going forward, AT&T expects to bring LTE-M Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity to Mexico by end-2017, complementing its domestic rollout.
