Orange Romania's LTE network reaches 100% urban coverage

Orange Romania announced its LTE network reached 100 percent urban coverage. Data traffic at 4G/LTE speeds increased 128 times since the Orange 4G/LTE service was launched nationwide in 2014.

4G/LTE traffic increased fourfold in Q1 versus Q1 2016. On 31 March, 2.4 million customers used Orange 4G/LTE services, double the number of customers who used them a year earlier. All this was supported by increased sales of smartphones, smart bracelets, fitness bracelets, robots, VR glasses, Apple Airpods, and personal assistant headphones, as well as the rapid expansion of Orange's 4G/LTE service coverage.

Areas where 4G/LTE services consistently record the highest traffic peaks are Bucharest, Cluj, Iasi, Sibiu and Mures. The hourly interval with the highest traffic increases ranges between 20:00hrs and 22:00hrs; this trend was sustained since the launch of the 4G/LTE services.

The most popular categories of apps and content for which users use 4G/LTE services are browsing (47 percent), streaming (39 percent) and messaging applications traffic (5 percent).

Romania's total number of active LTE subscriptions rose 175 percent year-on-year to 3.7 million, representing a quarter of the 14.8 million mobile broadband connections which grew 15 percent year-on-year in H1, according to data published by local telecommunications authority Ancom.
