Internet week kicks off to promote digital Bangladesh

The government is hosting the second edition of the internet week across the country to promote the use of internet and expedite the process of forming a digital economy.

“Without popularising the use of the internet, it would not be possible to build a Digital Bangladesh,” said Mustafa Jabbar, president of the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services.

The internet week will come to an end with a two-day programme that starts tomorrow on the Dhaka College premises. A good number of e-commerce companies, mobile application developers, web portals, device companies and other internet related services organisations will participate in the event. The Department of Information Communication Technology under the ICT division and BASIS are jointly organising the programmes.

“We are focusing on businesses that run on the internet platform. Creating awareness is also an agenda,” Jabbar said, adding that the awareness programmes are ongoing at the upazila level. Zunaid Ahmed Palak, state minister for ICT, will inaugurate the main event tomorrow. Industry leaders and policymakers will also be present.

The government and BASIS had organised the first internet week across the country in 2015.
