AIS to offer 700Mbps LTE speeds in May

Thai cellco Advanced Info Service (AIS) has announced in a press release that it will enable mobile data speeds of up to 700Mbps on its LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) carrier aggregation (CA) network next month for customers using a Samsung Galaxy S8 or S8 Plus smartphone. The release adds that the ‘4.5G’ 700Mbps-capable service is being provided in cooperation with chipset maker Qualcomm, leveraging CA, 4×4 multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) technology and 256-QAM higher order modulation. AIS is also claiming a Thai mobile data speed record.

Last month AIS and Qualcomm announced that their latest network enhancements utilise tri-band CA (3C) for downlink transmissions, and dual-band CA for uplink transmissions, alongside 4×4 MIMO, 256-QAM for downlink and 64-QAM for uplink, with current speeds of 150Mbps-300Mbps offered, although with network capability of ‘up to 400Mbps’ scalable to ‘up to 1Gbps’.
