Orange, Telefónica ink deal to share FTTH networks

On the heels of Telefónica and Vodafone’s agreement, Orange has also signed a deal with the dominant operator to use its FTTH network in areas where it has currently no coverage.

The agreement not only covers the non-competitive areas in which Telefónica is required to provide access under the regulation of CNMC, but in 66 cities not covered by the wholesale obligations.

The deal will allow Orange to immediately expand its fibre-optic coverage and offer 300 Mbps symmetric broadband and pay-TV in millions more homes across the country, while Telefónica will receive a steady income to cover its network rollout costs.

Orange plans to reach 14 million Spanish FTTH households by the end of 2019 from the current total of around 10 million.
