MTS Belarus offers free Wi-Fi at railway stations in major cities

MTS Belarus, in conjunction with the country’s national rail operator, has unveiled a project aimed at boosting its attractiveness as a potential tourist location by deploying free Wi-Fi in railway stations in Belarus’ 19 largest cities. Belarusian Railways (BelZhD) confirms that having commissioned MTS, internet hotspots will be deployed by the summer in waiting rooms and lobbies, and be will able to serve a large number of passengers and visitors. MTS will provide high speed access to the network using 4G LTE and fibre, it says. The list of cities includes: Minsk, Orsha, Molodechno, Borisov, Baranovichi, Lida, Grodno, Luninets, Brest, Pinsk, Gomel, Zhlobin, Kalinkovichi, Mogilev, Osipovichi, Bobruisk, Krichev, Vitebsk and Polotsk.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, earlier this month mobile network operator (MNO) MTS announced that it had extended the reach of its in-deployment 4G network to the regional centres of Borisov, Braslav, Marina Gorka, Orsha, Soligorsk, Uzda, Cherven and Berezino. Furthermore, in February this year it rolled out 4G to the cities of Mozyr and Kalinkovichi (both Gomel region), Lida (Grodna region) and Pinsk (Polesia region), and reported more than 520,000 people using 4G in around 30 cities and towns.
