Chinese smartphone manufacturer sets aims on Middle East market

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi is plotting expansion in the Middle East through new devices and flagship stores, reports Gulf Business. Xiaomi senior vice president Xiang Wang said the company planned to have its products in "a couple of hundred" stores in the region eventually, including concessions and standalone boutiques. It is also planning to bring its flagship store concept to the UAE with local distribution partner Task FZCO, after opening more than 50 locations in China.

The flagship stores will be based in premium shopping malls in the country, although the company declined to disclose locations. The plans come as Xiaomi brings a new range of devices to the market this month after launching in the Middle East in January 2016. They include the high end Redmi Note 4, with a metallic body and competitive specifications, to be available this month from AED 659.

Next month, the company will launch the lower0end Redmi 4A for AED 389, and its premium Mi Mix. The latter has a ceramic body with a 6.4-inch display that covers the top of the device. The Mi Mix comes with up to 6 GB of RAMand 256 GB of storage capacity. It will be available in limited supply with a price tag of AED 2,999.
