4G set to become the next frontier for local telecom companies

Data has surpassed voice as the major product on offer by telecom companies and this has led to a situation where these companies are now competing to expand the market share with the most enticing data offers.

In this arena of competition, offering 4G data services has become the new frontier for competition as telecom companies vie to win over customers with the most competitively priced deals.

According to Vodafone Uganda chief executive, John Ndegu, businesses must have access to the tools that will enable them seize the opportunities of the digital age and none is more important than fast, reliable and accessible broadband.

Ndegu adds that since Uganda is a landlocked country the cost of connecting to international internet gateways is made expensive due to the costs of laying fibre optic cables from the coast. Also high utility costs make offering broadband internet all the more costlier.

John Ndegu says Vodafone Uganda has tried to mitigate the cost of access to 4G enabled handsets by leveraging its international supply connections. This he says has given the company a strategic advantage in the market.
