UK Asdachooses BT to deliver 4G mobile services

UK supermarket retailer Asda has selected BT to deliver 4G mobile services for its customers across the country.

In this connection, BT extended its Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) agreement with the retailer.

Through its EE network, BT will introduce 4G services in the new deal apart from giving Asda Mobile customers access to faster speeds on their mobiles starting this spring.

BT Wholesale & Ventures CEO Gerry McQuade said that BT is an ideal partner for Asda Mobile owing to the strength and wide range of the EE 4G mobile network and the company’s ability to deliver excellent customer service on a fully managed basis.

McQuade added: “We’re very proud to have helped them achieve award winning levels of customer service and the move to 4G will only make them a stronger force to be reckoned with in the marketplace. With ASDA stores boasting a footfall of 19 million customers, we have a terrific opportunity to help ASDA Mobile to significantly grow its business and customer base.”

The MVNO agreement extends of the earlier signed 5-year contract by EE in August 2014 to 2020.

Asda’s mobile virtual network operator is likely to provide a switch from 3G to 4G services to its customers through spring.

Asda Mobile VP Richard Phillips said: “ASDA is delighted to extend our partnership with EE as it allows us to provide faster speeds and easier top ups for our customers. Combined with our award winning customer service and excellent value, Asda Mobile becomes an even more compelling proposition for our customers.”

Asda Mobile’s customers will be provided mobile voice and data services on a wholesale basis through BT’s EE 4G mobile network.
