IT&E extends LTE network coverage

As part of IT&E’s continuing work to provide improved services for all customers, IT&E announced that it has completed the installation of LTE high speed data capability at both their Airport and Lower Base cellular sites.

“We are very proud that we are now able to provide even more lT&E coverage and faster speeds to our wireless customers. Our test results, like the ones in the attached photo, show that we are sometimes achieving download speeds approaching 100 Mbps. Since our customers only need about 3 Mbps to watch videos without buffering, we are sure that our wireless subscribers will be very happy with these results,” said John Compton, IT&E’s chief operating officer.

He went on to say “these new LTE sites are just the latest ones to be installed. In 2016, we installed LTE capacity on Navy Hill, Dandan, Chalan Laulau, Afetna, Kagman, San Roque, and Garapan. In 2017, we will also install LTE capability in at least Tanapag, San Antonio and a second LTE site in Dandan.”

IT&E is investing millions of dollars in both its buried cable and wireless networks to provide improved internet speeds and better overall service. These improvements include laying buried fiber optic cables around the island, connecting all cellular sites to this fiber optic network, and expanding the 4G/LTE capabilities of its wireless networks. IT&E invested over $6 million in the CNMI in 2016 and has the plans to spend at least the same amount in 2017.
