Brazil opens consultation on fixed telephony concessions

Brazil's National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) has published the public consultation to update the General Plan of Concessions for the Telecommunications Service. The process will be available for contributions until 12 March. According to the reference document, Anatel plans to switch from the concession to the licensing method within six months of the publication of the new plan.

The concession holders will have to inform the regulator of the economic value of the migration and the proposed investment commitments.

<>In defining the investment commitments, Anatel will give priority to the expansion of fibre optic and high-capacity wireless networks; expansion of coverage of rural villages and agglomerates with mobile broadband; increased coverage of fibre optic access networks in urban areas; and the provision of services to public agencies, especially education and health.
