Polish regulator publishes priorities for 2017

Polish regulator UKE has published a plan of work for 2017. The regulator has defined its objectives as increasing the availability and use of telecommunications services, stimulating competition in the market, protecting consumers, and international coordination associated with the planned release of the 700 MHz frequency band.

The regulator assumes broadband internet penetration will reach 42 percent by the end of 2017. To promote competition promotion, UKE plans to undertake a review of six relevant markets subject to ex-ante regulation. In the field of spectrum harmonisation, UKE would like to complete international negotiations on the frequency band 694 - 790 MHz planned for release, in line with EU plans. Poland may require a two-year derogation from the EU's deadline for the release of 700 MHz frequencies in 2020, and might release the frequencies only in 2022.
