Afrimax-Vodafone deploys TD-LTE network in Cameroon

Afrimax Group, which claims to hold time division duplex (TD)-LTE spectrum in 17 countries across sub-Saharan Africa, is reportedly finalising the deployment of a 4G network in Cameroon, according to a report by Investir au Cameroun. In November last year the Netherlands-based operator – in partnership with the UK’s Vodafone Group – selected Chinese equipment vendor ZTE for the rollout of end-to-end TD-LTE broadband infrastructure in Cameroon and Zambia. ZTE agreed to provide 4G LTE and evolved packet core (EPC) solutions covering wireless access, core networks, microwave transmission, value-added systems, business support systems (BSS) and operating support systems (OSS) in the two countries.

The deployment followed the signing of a Partner Market Agreement with Vodafone Group in 2014, under which the two companies cooperate to provide customers with enhanced network coverage and harmonised roaming rates across multiple countries. As part of the agreement, Vodafone and Afrimax have already partnered to introduce 4G services in Uganda and Ghana (under the ‘Busy’ brand), while plans to launch in Zambia were announced in June this year.
