Fibre works for Orange in Spain as it triples IPTV, broadband subs

Following the acquisition of Jazztel and increasing investment in fibre-to-the-home (FTTH), Orange Spain seems to finally be heading in the right direction, reporting three-fold growth in IPTV and fibre broadband subscribers.

During Q2 2016, Orange Spain invoiced €1.23 billion, 6.2% more than a year before, continuing the company’s positive growth since the beginning of 2015.

Already consolidated as mobile player with 15.67 million accesses, Orange has also reached 3.83 million broadband subscriptions, of which 1.22 million are FTTH (2.9 times more than by Q2 2105). In fact, the Spanish operation has largest fibre footprint within the Orange Group.

Although with somewhat lower figures, its IPTV results are among the most positive for the French telco, as its pay-TV operation in Spain has been stagnating for almost ten years. By the end of June 2016, Orange TV reached 381,000 subscribers, 2.8 times more than a year before.

The company foresees more growth over the next 12 months, following improvements in its content catalogue. In fact, Orange TV now has access to beIN Sports (with international football) and beIN La Liga as well as La Liga broadcasting rights for public places like bars and restaurants.
