Innovation Village launches streaming site for Rwandan content

Rwandan creative company Innovation Village has introduced a video streaming site called Journal to share free high definition (HD) content on multiple platforms.

The site will provide African productions on-demand, with a range of documentaries and films produced in-house for the Journal by Innovation Village.

“It is a mobile-friendly website that you can access on any device connected to the Internet. All videos are of high definition quality but you can choose to watch them in standard form. Streaming Journal will remain free during the six-month trial. After the trial, we might apply a small subscription fee or pay-as-you-go model,” Armand Kajangwe, executive director of Journal.rw, told The New Times.

Kajangwe added that Africa’s youth, driven by technology, is going through a “creative and cultural revolution,” and that his company hopes to work with local and regional content creators to boost the video-on-demand (VOD) site.

“Rwanda has enormous potential and the ability to become a key player in the creative revolution and there’s never been a better time to expand on how we tell stories about the remarkable innovations, ideas and ideals behind this transformation.”

The platform is currently showcasing the work of singer Diana Teta, the Inganzo Ngari dance troupe and poet Eric Ngangare (Eric One-Key).
