Awasr to roll out general telephony infrastructure

Awasr, Oman's first specialised broadband service provider, has been awarded a Class 1 License by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) after meeting all requirements for amending the previous license.

This new license will now enable the operator to provide general fixed telephony services across the Sultanate.

In light of the new license, Awasr is building a robust and advanced dedicated network, capable of delivering high-speed fibre-optic Internet of up to 1 Gbps.

This service will be provided exclusively in the Omani market.

The network will also enable the operator to offer international call services.

Mohamad el Madhoun, Commercial Adviser Awasr, said: "We were keen on meeting all the Class 1 License requirements. These requirements reflect our continued commitment towards improving lifestyles and developing the Omani business environment, through delivering high-speed fiber-optic Internet to both locals and expats across the Sultanate."

Issam al Ismaili, Head of Marketing, Awasr, commented: "We have already begun working with our partners and the concerned authorities to build a general telephony infrastructure covering the Sultanate's different provinces.

We will deliver top-notch services at highly competitive and affordable prices to everyone, especially since affordability is one of Awasr's core principles aiming to achieve sustainable development in the Sultanate."

With the new TRA license, Awasr commits to build network infrastructure in Muscat and the northern region, including the governorates: Al Batinah North, Al Batinah South, Al Dhahirah and Al Buraimi, in addition to the southern region, including Al Dakhiliya, Al Sharqiyah North, Al Sharqiyah South, Dhofar and Al Wusta.

Awasr will also build an International Gateway to provide high-end international telecommunications services.

Awasr officially launched its services early last month, in addition to announcing of pre-ordering 1Gbps service, becoming Oman's first specialised broadband service provider. Its services currently cover the regions of Al Khoud, Al Mawaleh, Al Hail, Maabilah and Shatti Al Qurum as a first phase.
