DTAC Thailand plans $2 billion investment

Thai mobile operator Digital Total Access Communication (DTAC) says it is planning to spend THB70 billion (USD2 billion) between now and 2018 on the deployment of 4G LTE infrastructure and an upgrade of its national backbone network. DTAC, which utilises spectrum in the 1800MHz and 2100MHz bands for 4G services, will invest around THB20 billion in 2016. The firm expects to have LTE networks in 77 provinces by mid-2016 and coverage in all 878 districts nationwide by end-September, according to a report from The Nation. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that DTAC is Thailand’s second largest cellco by subscribers, with 30.5% of the overall market at 30 September 2015.
