US operators will invest an estimated USD 56 billion to build and deploy 5G networks between 2017 and 2025, according to market research consultancy iGR. The figure does not include any operational costs. The first 5G networks are likely to include some or all of the following: a virtualised mobile core over which a preponderance of traffic flows, some type of 'evolved' IoT use case, and LTE-A deployed along with new spectrum.
