The Bharath Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has decided to offer free WiFi at the ornamental terraced Brindavan Gardens near Srirangapatna and other selected tourist locations in Mandya district under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious Digital India Programme.
The BSNL would offer free WiFi to visitors at popular tourist destinations soon, C. Anand Devaprasad, District Manager (BSNL-Mandya), told presspersons here on Thursday.
He said the company had already begun providing high-speed Fibre-To-The-Home (FTTH) internet services starting from 10 Mbps to 100 Mbps, to all 232 gram panchayats in the district.
“We are also offering free national roaming and free night calling for landline phones,” he said. It has also installed mobile towers at 144 places throughout the district. The BSNL has 1.51 lakh mobile phone customers and 12,011 landline users in the district. The Brindavan Gardens on the downstream of the Krishnaraja Sagar reservoir (KRS), known for its symmetric design, has innumerable fountains and entices at least three lakh tourists every month.
