Customer-centric Product Innovation Centre from Mobitel

Mobitel, the leading mobile service provider in Sri Lanka ceremonially opened its Innovation Centre at the TRACE Expert City on Friday to do product innovations focusing on the needs of the customer.

 

The Innovation Centre's techno-centric platform will focus on customer-centric features when developing new mobile solutions.

 

Coinciding with Mobitel's 22nd anniversary, TRACE Expert City Complex itself was declared open on the same day, in order to provide a valuable service to the country's technology sector.

 

Concurring with these openings was the setting up of Sri Lanka Telecom Campus (SLTC) city office along with a model of the campus to be constructed in Padukka at an investment of Rs. 2000 million.

 

The initiation of the Mobitel Innovation Centre was brought forward with the aim of producing a customer and techno-centric hub emphasizing tech related entities that would lift Sri Lanka's innovative, professional and entrepreneurial foundation to the ultimate level.

 

TRACE stands for Technological Reawakening Culture of Excellence and the TRACE concept basically targets towards working extensively to create an ecosystem which comprises of turning Sri Lanka's resources into a technology-driven, knowledge-rich and sustainable society and harmonizing tech experts for research.

 

The Centre is formed of state-of-the-art Hi-tech facilities which would in turn help form a platform where experts can congregate for brainstorming sessions and collaboratively work with like-minded enterprises and institutes.

 

Mobitel, in conjunction with SLT embarked on a journey of penetrating the corporate circle of clientele and the opening of the Centre was described as a worthy campaign which would display Mobitel's social responsibility in supporting Sri Lanka's ICT development.

 

Sri Lanka Telecom Chairman P. G. Kumarasinghe commented, "This instigation will help open another doorway that would encourage the birth of new ideas, concepts and innovation and give leverage to Sri Lanka's ICT structure. Sri Lanka is no doubt resourceful when it comes to individuals in the IT sector and SLT is one good example, being abundant in capable engineers and officials."

 

Kumarasinghe also added that with the recent 'Free Wi-Fi' approach, another 1000 locations island wide has been targeted to receive the free service by the end of the year. SLT and Mobitel have contributed immensely to uplift Sri Lanka's techno aspect. Representatives also stated that by the next three years, these companies will be taking an initiative to fully intensify the country's technological setting.

 

Along with the Centre, Mobitel also exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in partnership with the broadcasting channels MTV/MBC and launched a reality programme where local masterminds can receive a platform to showcase their ideas at a show which will be titled 'Tech Startup Reality Show'. This show will be dedicated to help identify, nurture and bring out Sri Lanka's innovators. The show is set to be broadcasted in the near future.
