MCOT returns 2600MHz spectrum; additional 4G auction to follow next year

Thai broadcaster MCOT has agreed to return unused 2600MHz spectrum to the regulator for reassignment under 4G mobile licences in return for THB100 million (USD3.1 million) in compensation, the Bangkok Post reports. The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) secretary-general Takorn Tantasith confirmed the development and said that as a result, a 2600MHz mobile spectrum auction is expected to take place in 2016. MCOT returned 60MHz of 2600MHz bandwidth out of its total of 144MHz in the frequency range.
