Digicel Turks & Caicos has commercially launched a 4G LTE mobile network, the first of its kind on the islands. Promising mobile data speeds up to 20 times faster than existing networks in the Caribbean country, Digicel has rolled out its LTE network to cover 94% of the Turks & Caicos population from launch. Most areas of Providenciales, Grand Turk and North Caicos islands are already covered, with service on the remaining islands expected in the near future, according to Digicel’s press release.

In an LTE launch promotion, post-paid customers get 5GB of data plus voice for free for one month, with handsets being offered for free on specific voice plans. Pre-paid customers get 3GB of data for free for one month. Customers will also be able to benefit from Rdio & Netflix content services. Customers who already have LTE-compatible phones can enjoy LTE access at the same tariffs they currently pay for 3.5G W-CDMA/HSPA+ services (marketed by Digicel as ‘4G’).

As part of its LTE licensing rollout commitments, Digicel is providing free broadband services in each government-run school; to date, half of the schools have been provided services, with the rest to follow over the next few months, the press release adds.
