TelOne announces fiber expansion plans

Zimbabwean state-owned fixed line operator TelOne has announced a project to extend fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) high speed internet networks to eight new areas covering some 9,500 households. The areas to gain coverage include Ruwa, Norton, Ngezi and Zvishavane, plus the Harare suburbs of Mount Pleasant Heights, Mainway Meadows, Tynwald and Westgate. Company corporate communications manager Melody Harry told NewsDay that the operator is also consolidating and expanding its fibre-to-the-building (FTTB) deployments in Bulawayo, Mutare, Harare and other smaller towns. In addition, work is continuing on national backbone networks, with Harry noting: ‘On a larger scale, TelOne will continue to roll out its backbone fibre footprint and implement the following routes: Bulawayo – Masvingo – Beitbridge; Nyanga – Mutare – Chipinge – Chiredzi; and Harare – Nyamapanda.’
