Huawei to Build Smart Cities with a ‘Better Connected World’ at GITEX Technology Week 2014

With cities across the Middle East becoming more intelligent through connected infrastructure, Huawei—a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider—has announced a full program of activities to help ‘Build a Better Connected World’ at this year’s GITEX Technology Week, through an end-to-end portfolio of Smart City solutions and expertise.

Visitors at GITEX 2014 will have the opportunity to preview Huawei’s latest technology innovations across its three core business lines serving telecom operators, enterprise & government entities, as well as consumers throughout the region.  A lineup of regional and global Huawei experts will also be descending on GITEX 2014 to share insights about how the latest best practices in Smart City development will prove fundamental to improving the quality of life of citizens and businesses in the Middle East in the decade ahead.

Huawei’s smart city focus at GITEX follows a recent IDC report that states government spending in the Middle East and Africa is set to top $8billion, a 12 percent increase as more regional governments expand their mobile government and online services.

“Our world is increasingly city-centric, and within the Middle East cities of the future will need to become more intelligent through connected infrastructure that can positively transform the way in which citizens and businesses experience their world,” comments Mr. Shi Yaohong, President of Huawei Middle East. “We hope to work with regional governments in the future to help them become better connected and will be announcing key insights during the exhibition that will help them achieve their smart city initiatives.  With an unparalleled heritage in ICT research & development, an end-to-end portfolio of technology solutions and experience in delivering projects across the Middle East, Huawei is ideally placed to make the Middle East cities of tomorrow a reality. During this year’s GITEX 2014, we also look forward to further strengthening our relationship with top regulators, channel partners, service providers and customers from around the globe as technology innovations continue to help drive businesses’ bottom lines.

All of Huawei’s latest solutions and products can be found in the GULFCOMMS sector in Zabeel Hall ZE20.

GITEX 2014 Exhibition Highlights

As the foundation for building a better connected world, Huawei’s heritage in the telecoms market will feature prominently at GITEX 2014. In particular, the company will showcase advancements in ultra-broadband network technologies such as fiber optics, LTE-Advanced, and 5th Generation mobile broadband, which together provide the foundation for fast and universal access to high-speed broadband services. Further advancements in telecom applications & software, as well as ICT professional services, will also be discussed at length throughout the week.

As part of Huawei’s strategy to drive the enterprise market, Huawei will unveil a series of new additions to its solutions portfolio, coupled with live demonstrations and interactive case studies offering strategic guidance to governments and businesses on how to approach Smart City projects. With increasing demand for business functions across organizations to become converged, more flexible, reliable and secure, such activities will focus on key ICT trends in the Middle East including Software-Defined-Networking (SDN), cloud computing, Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD), Big Data and Unified Communications —all of which are evolving rapidly and consequently redefining the way that businesses look at their ICT infrastructure.

This year Huawei will also preview how an integrated portfolio of vertical industry solutions can be used to create a competitive business advantage in the fields of Oil & Gas, Power, Transportation, Government, Hospitality, Education and Healthcare.

Another highlight at the exhibition will be Huawei’s demo truck, which gives visitors the opportunity to experience firsthand the latest innovations in data center solutions, virtual servers & desktops, plus a wide range of vertical industry solutions. Visitors will have access to a fully-functional Huawei container data center operating in a live environment inside the demo truck.

Huawei’s presence at GITEX 2014 will also be underscored by the company’s latest device offerings for consumers across the Middle East. Leading that charge will be the company’s latest handsets such as the recently launched Ascend P7 smartphone.
