iPhone 6 in UAE: Apple beats Samsung to Gitex Shopper

Gitex Shopper begins on September 27 and in terms of smartphones recently launched, only the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be available in time for the show.

Samsung launched its Galaxy Note 4 ahead of Apple iPhone 6 and even the Sony Xperia Z3, but unlike previous years when Samsung devices were the first to retail in the UAE, this time, Apple has scored.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, which was unveiled on September 9 and will be released in the US on September 19, will reach the UAE ahead of the Galaxy Note 4 or even the Sony Xperia Z3.

Both Android devices were unveiled ahead of the iPhone 6 and during the IFA annual technology gala in Berlin.

According to sources within the UAE retail industry, Xperia Z3 might reach the UAE ahead of the Galaxy Note 4, a significant move keeping in mind the inordinate delays of the Z2.

As Ashish Panjabi, COO of Jacky's Electronics points out, official retailers are excited about this move from Apple.

"In fact, a week before the announcement we had no idea about how quickly the stocks would reach us. I was prepared for a 45-day delay," he said.

"With much anticipation following the official launch iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, we are expecting to have official stocks available at Jacky's stands during Gitex Shopper, starting from September 27 until October 4.

"Our suppliers are working with us to ensure we meet these timelines," he said.

According to him, Apple has strategically planned its release in different markets based on local conditions.

"In India, for example, they have planned to release the device just ahead of the Diwali festival.

"We applaud Apple in their efforts to recognise the importance of major sales events like Gitex Shopper and festivals like Eid," he added.

According to Nadeem Khanzadah, Head-Retail at Jumbo Electronics, "It will be the first time ever that the iPhones will be available in the UAE within a week of the US availability, which just goes to show the increased importance Apple is beginning to attach to the Middle East market," he said.

Apple is yet to announce the release dates for several markets, including China.
