Prime Instant Video streaming increases 70% since February

Amazon is claiming that its investment in original and exclusive movies and TV shows in the UK has paid off after revealing that Prime Instant Video members increased streaming by over 70% since February.

In that time the online video service has added not only a slew of exclusive TV shows but has also benefited from increasing original output. Indeed the company claims that since it acquired former rival LOVEFiLM it has tripled its content selection. Exclusive content highlights have also proven to be audience favourites, with the Halle Berry hit US TV drama Extant becoming the second most watched TV series on the service.

The company also believes that it has been assisted by making Prime Instant Video available on as many devices as possible most recently new Sony and Samsung Smart TV and Blu-Ray players as well as to all Xbox Silver members. Prime Instant Video is now available on more than 400 devices in the UK, including PC and Mac, popular gaming consoles (PS3 & 4, Xbox 360 & One, Wii & Wii U), Internet-ready smart TVs and Blu-ray players (Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, LG), and tablets and smartphone phones including Kindle Fire, iPad and iPhone.

"We are excited by the response from our customers to our increased investment in exclusive and original content since we launched Prime Instant Video as part of Amazon Prime six months ago," commented Tim Leslie, VP of Amazon Instant Video in Europe. "Over the past few months we have continued to make improvements to delight our customers: we have launched on new devices, added new functionality and most importantly added great new and exclusive movie and TV content, and we're just getting started."
