EMT, Estonian mobile carrier who launched 4G services for smart devices in January 2013 and 300Mbit LTE-A service last month, said that a third of EMT's data load travelled over its 4G network last month. The operator enabled 4G services for calling card users (Super), its pay-as-you-go customers, supporting acces via both mobile and wireless modem.
According to EMT, the reason behind the rapid growth of 4G is the increase in mobile internet speeds and build-out of the ultra-fast LTE-A network.
"The proportion of 4G services in EMT's network has increased both in terms of user numbers and data traffic.The growth has been especially rapid for data traffic, as 32 percent of data traffic moved over 4G network last month. LTE-A network with speeds up to 300 Mbps is available to our customers since August. For now, these speeds can be reached only with Huawei's 4G router E5186, which will soon reach EMT and Elion stores, but smartphones with 300 Mbps are also not that far off." - Tiit Tammiste, Head of Technology Division at EMT and Elion
