Maxis revealed that it is partnering with China Mobile International (CMI) to launch CMLink, its new mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) business in Malaysia.
CMLink is CMI’s first MVNO venture in Malaysia and its sixth launch of the CMLink brand worldwide, following launches in the UK, Singapore, Japan, Thailand, and Italy.
Apart from offering 4G and 5G services via Maxis’ network, CMLink will also offer features such as multiple numbers for a single SIM card and data sharing services between China and Malaysia. CMI said the latter will be targeted at students and professionals living in and traveling to Malaysia.
Maxis said in a statement on Monday that the MVNO partnership was formalised last week during the 2025 China Mobile SEA Cooperation Conference in Kuala Lumpur.
The partnership also follows an MoU signed by Maxis and CMI in August 2024 to collaborate on exploring and developing private 5G applications and solutions for enterprises, to include private 5G networks, 5G consultation and applications, smart park solutions, advancements in AI, and joint research and development projects.
U Mobile signed a cooperation agreement with CMI the same month to explore ways to advance 5G connectivity, including commercial 5G models, B2B solutions and enhanced roaming infrastructure for seamless cross border 5G connectivity.
