German broadband congress to focus on fiber rollout inside buildings

The German broadband industry will gather in Leipzig next month for the 28th FRK Broadband Congress, with discussions centred on the challenges of extending fiber networks into buildings.

The event, organised by cable operator association Fachverband Rundfunk- und BreitbandKommunikation (FRK), takes place on 10-11 September at the H4 Hotel in Leipzig. Alongside conference sessions, exhibitors will present the latest developments and technical solutions for cable and fibre network deployment.

A keynote address on Germany’s gigabit supply between market and politics will be delivered by Wolfgang Heer, managing director of fibre industry association Bundesverband Glasfaseranschluss (BUGLAS), on the opening evening.

This year’s congress will highlight fibre expansion on network level 4 (NE4), the in-building infrastructure that remains a major hurdle for nationwide FTTH deployment. Presentations will showcase best-practice models and practical solutions designed to accelerate NE4 rollout.

Cooperation among telecoms providers is also high on the agenda. Sessions will examine how open access agreements can be made attractive for all partners, while other talks will explore integrated fibre solutions across network levels 3 and 4 using XGS-PON technology.

Additional topics include the role of artificial intelligence in fibre deployment, measures to reduce the workload of staff, fibre-to-the-home overhead line construction and strategies for customer communication.

“Like every year, attendance at our broadband congress, including the presentations and exhibition, is free of charge for trade visitors,” said FRK Chairman Ralf Berger (pictured). He emphasised that catering is not priced at typical trade fair levels: “Cool drinks and coffee are also free.”

The event aims to provide participants with the opportunity to learn about current product innovations and exchange experiences with industry experts.

Further details, including the full programme and registration, are available on the congress website at www.breitbandkongress-frk.de.
