Globe has just finished a successful live pilot trial of 5G-Advanced, the first of its kind in the Philippines. Also known as 5.5G,the technology is the next stage in mobile evolution, developed to meet the demands of an increasingly connected world.
The pilot was held in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig, one of the busiest central business districts in the country. It was designed to test the peak performance and potential impact of 5G-Advanced across a wide range of use cases.
This trial moves the company closer to providing next-generation wireless experiences for customers in the Philippines. It also reflects the company’s mission to constantly become a leader in 5G and mobile innovation.
During the activity, Globe recorded an impressive peak download throughout of ~2.5 Gbps in a real world environment. This showcases how 5G-Advanced can offer higher speeds, lower latency, and enhanced reliability compared to current 5G networks.
Globe utilized a 5G Stand-alone (SA) network with advanced technologies. These include Massive MIMO and Carrier Aggregation of three 5G/NR Component Carriers (3NRCA). They combined for a 210MHz bandwidth.
Paired with 5G-SA capable phone, this technical leap unlocks a new level of performance, enabling multi-gigabit speeds for a flawless user experience.
Practical scenarios include instant movie downloads and lag-free cloud gaming. Such technology, also known as 5.5G, can also support Extended reality (XR), Advanced Internet of Things (AIoT), connected and autonomous vehicles, and AI/ML applications.
