TCS and NOW Telecom to build sovereign cloud in the Philippines

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) says it has partnered with Philippine telco NOW Telecom to co-design, develop, and deploy scalable and secure digital infrastructure that includes the creation of a sovereign data cloud for public and private sectors.

Under the partnership – TCS said it will deliver services to NOW Telecom to enhance technology initiatives for data sovereignty, operational interoperability to enable cross-agency collaboration, resilience against evolving cyber threats, and reduced foreign dependency to ensure sovereign control over critical systems during crises.

To that end, NOW Telecom will deploy TCS’ Sovereign Secure Cloud solution to develop a cloud infrastructure that will ensure local data control and AI infrastructure development, as well as enable operational continuity and local capability-building. TCS said the infrastructure will align with clean network principles laid out by the Philippines’ Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

TCS will also help NOW Telecom to develop advanced security protocols to protect critical infrastructure by deploying its Cyber Defense Suite that provides cyber intelligence, resilience, vendor risk management and identity security.

TCS and NOW Telecom will also leverage the digital infrastructure to co-create “citizen-centric services” such as digital private infrastructure, healthcare and digital banking.

NOW Group chairman Mel Velarde said the partnership with TCS “marks a significant step towards enhancing our national digital sovereignty and reducing reliance on foreign technologies. NOW’s and TCS’ expertise and innovative services will contribute to our nation’s data sovereignty by defending against risks and threats while creating a scalable, secure, and robust data infrastructure.”
