There has been a 64% increase in residential units covered by fiber optics, greatly enhancing high-speed internet access, according to the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA).
TRA also added that the telecom sector has achieved an almost universal 4G coverage of 99 percent and 90% coverage of 5G across the country.
Additionally, 5,600 stations across all governorates have been upgraded from 3G to 4G and 5G, in line with the completion of the project to discontinue third-generation (3G) services, which marks a full transition to advanced 4G and 5G networks.
From the last quarter of last year, TRA stopped providing third-generation (3G) mobile services as mobile devices that were limited to 3G and 2G capabilities were urged to upgrade their gadgets in line with the needs of telecommunication services.
The phase-out program helped service providers to use the 3G spectrum capacities for new technologies that need 4G and 5G networks.
