4G mast on the outskirts of Ipswich set to be extended to 20m

A telecommunications mast on the outskirts of Ipswich is set to be extended to 20m.

The pole will replace the existing 15m telecommunications tower, and will provide better coverage and more capacity to residents.

Two towers can be found next to Kesgrave All Saints cemetery, off of Dr Watson Lane and the Main Road at the BT building.

The plans received one notice of opposition from residents, who live beneath the poles, who raised concerns over both the visual impact of the change and the potential resale value of their home.

East Suffolk Landscape Team said ahead of the approval: "The development would see the existing 15m mast replaced with a 20m mast. Though there is some screening from trees to the east, the increase in height of the mast is likely to make it more visible in the landscape from public rights of way and development to the north.

"However, this is not a pristine landscape, as the site is located to the northern edge of Kesgrave, and can be understand within the context of the existing built up area. Therefore, I do not believe that the replacement mast would be significantly more visually intrusive than the existing mast”.
