Paradise Mobile introduces 5G+

Bermuda is now live with 5G+.

The rollout from Paradise Mobile sets the island on a par with North America’s most advanced networks, the company said, offering faster speeds, lower latency and broader coverage.

But what does that all mean for the average customer?

First, customers using compatible Android, and some iPhones, can already connect, with devices displaying the 5G+ symbol even though the icon may not yet appear on iPhone screens. Still, performance improvements are noticeable, the company said.

Sam Tabarra, the chief executive of Paradise Mobile, explained what users can expect: “5G+ is like upgrading from a busy single-lane road to a wide, clear highway … things will load faster, video calls will be sharper and apps will respond instantly.”

He offered real-life examples: “Ultra HD videos stream without buffering, gaming is smoother and less laggy, video calls are clearer even in busy areas, uploads happen in seconds and tethering performs as well as home Wi‑Fi.”

Mr Tabarra also addressed comparisons with US networks, saying: “It’s similar in concept to what US carriers call ‘Ultra Wideband’ or '5G Max' but it all boils down to real 5G speeds and low latency, not marketing hype.

He said: “Paradise Mobile’s 5G+ offers this level of performance across Bermuda, not just in tiny city blocks.

“The company’s cloud‑native, Open Ran-based architecture and higher‑capacity spectrum mean consistent speeds and reliability.”

“At Paradise Mobile, our vision is to set a new benchmark for innovation in Bermuda’s telecommunications sector,” said Zlatko Zahirović, chief technology officer, in a statement.

“5G+ isn’t just a fun label; it’s an indicator of our investment into the island’s technological future and our commitment to keeping us on the bleeding edge of technology.”

Looking ahead, Mr Tabarra confirmed plans to extend 5G+ coverage across all populated areas of Bermuda over the next 12-18 months. The network is also being prepared to support emerging technologies such as virtual reality, augmented reality, smart-city infrastructure and other connected services.

“No other competitor in Bermuda or the Caribbean offers island‑wide 5G,” Mr Tabarra said. “This positions Bermuda ahead of many larger countries, making it one of the most connected small-island nations globally.”
