Integratel to expand 4G networks to 106 rural Peruvian communities

After announcing its intention to participate in the 5G spectrum allocation process, the new owner of Telefónica Perú, Integratel, said it is expanding its 4G network using the coverage fee for the 2025 connectivity program.

The coverage fee is an initiative of the communications and transport ministry (MTC) to allow mobile companies to pay up to 60% of the rights to use spectrum through 4G investments.

The company will deploy new 4G base stations in 74 rural communities and will migrate its 2G network to 4G in another 32 communities, Integratel said in a release.

New 4G coverage will be available in localities in regions such as Huánuco, San Martín and Ayacucho.

Last September, Telefónica announced that 150 4G internet base stations have been installed nationwide over the past four years through the coverage fee mechanism.

Claro, meanwhile, has deployed 217 base stations through the mechanism in four years.

In March, MTC said that as of the end of 2024, 177 localities in 16 regions of the country benefited from the coverage program. The figure represents 41.6% of the goal to connect 425 localities by this month.
