Ericsson and Orange Maroc partner to launch standalone 5G network in Morocco

Ericsson has entered a strategic partnership with Orange Maroc to modernize and expand Morocco’s core network infrastructure in preparation for the rollout of standalone 5G later this year. The deal includes deploying Ericsson’s dual-mode 5G core and cloud-native infrastructure solution to enhance network capacity and customer experience.

Majda Lahlou Kassi, VP and head of Ericsson’s Customer Unit for West and South Africa, emphasized that the partnership will support advanced services such as mobile broadband, fixed wireless access (FWA), gaming, and industrial connectivity. This collaboration builds on over 20 years of cooperation between the two companies and aligns with Morocco’s Digital 2030 strategy aimed at accelerating innovation and connectivity.

Morocco’s National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT) has targeted a 5G rollout starting November 2025, just ahead of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON). ANRT aims for 5G coverage of 25% of the population by the end of 2025 and 70% by 2030.

In support of this vision, Maroc Telecom and Inwi signed an agreement in March 2025 to consolidate parts of their passive telecom infrastructure, accelerating fiber optic and 5G deployment nationwide.
