TV Markíza is launching a new news platform that the Slovakian broadcaster says is a unique hybrid between television broadcasting and an online platform that combines the power and credibility of the most watched TV news in Slovakia with the dynamics and flexibility of the digital space.
TN live will debut on 9 June with news, events and exclusive content in real time. It will broadcast daily from 09:00 to 20:00. Viewers can access it free of charge through the news portal TVNOVINY.sk, a mobile app and also via a streaming platform Voyo.
“Traditional television is going through a period of significant digitisation. That is why we are moving Markíza forward, bringing innovations and investing in new formats so that we are as attractive as possible for our viewers on all platforms. News has long been a key part of our program offer and we consider it one of our pillars. The new online news project is therefore important for the future of Markíza,” says Peter Gažík, CEO of the Markíza Group.
Last year journalists at TV Markíza complained of political influnence from the Slovakian government. Popular anchor Michal Kovacic was removed after telling viewers of “pressures coming not only from the politicians, but also from our own management”.
TV Markiza is operated by the Central European Media Enterprises (CME) which has been owned since 2020 by the Prague-based PPF.
