Cirion announces PoP and access zone growth in Latin America

Cirion Technologies, a provider of digital infrastructure and technology in Latin America, says it has expanded its network infrastructure with higher capacity, new metro access zones and new PoPs across the region.

In total, the company has announced the development of seven new metro access zones, 15 new PoPs (points of presence) across Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico and Peru, and increased network capacity.

The new metro access zones include three in Mexico and Colombia and one in Peru. These zones feature advanced data transport and metro/IP technologies enhancing ASN 3356 backbone, supported by extensive fibre access networks.

These new developments add to the more than 110 existing metro access zones in the region and, Cirion says, further consolidate its presence and capacity to offer advanced connectivity solutions, ensuring robust and reliable connectivity.

The new backbone PoPs are equipped with data transport, metro/IP and ASN 3356 internet network, supported by multiple footprints and substantial KVA energy capacity, ensuring high availability and reliability. These add to the more than 840 backbone PoPs that Cirion already has in the region.

The company says it added over 1,580 kilometres of long-haul routes and 447 kilometres of metro fibre in 2024 bringing its terrestrial optical network capacity to 668 Tb/s, and enhancing peering capabilities, enabling traffic exchange of over 34 Tb/s with other providers.

Cirion has also increased capacity across various segments of its submarine cable systems, which now offer a total capacity of approximately 199.4 Tb/s.
