Indosat launches AI experience centre in East Indonesia

Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison said on Wednesday it has officially inaugurated an AI Experience Center (AIEC) in Jayapura as part of its bid to expand access to AI technology for communities across Eastern Indonesia.

Indosat said the new AIEC is intended to serve as a catalyst for innovation, delivering practical AI applications while also cultivating and strengthening local AI talent in Papua province with digital learning platforms and collaborative spaces for students, professionals, and local communities.

The Jayapura AIEC – which leverages Indosat’s 5G network for connectivity – is supported by partners including Huawei and Wadhwani Foundation.

The centres focuses mainly on the education and healthcare sectors. Indosat said AI can enable personalized and accessible learning experiences for students in underdeveloped and remote regions. Meanwhile, it also allows for faster and more accurate diagnoses of diseases such as tuberculosis, providing critical support for medical personnel in facilities with limited resources.

Indosat president director and CEO Vikram Sinha said the AIEC in Jayapura is envisioned as a hub for nurturing digital talent from Papua and bridging the digital access gap between Western and Eastern Indonesia.

“By bringing AI to regions that require greater attention, we aim to create more equitable access to quality education and support more responsive and accurate healthcare services,” he said in a statement.
