Tele2 begins 3G shutdown in Western Estonia

Tele2 has announced that it will close its 3G network in Western Estonia, Pärnu County and the islands in May. The freed frequencies will be directed towards the development of 4G and 5G networks to offer customers even faster and more stable data and voice communications.

Most Tele2 customers already use data and voice communication on the 4G network. The closure of the 3G network primarily affects those whose devices only support 3G – for example, older modems or routers that are not compatible with 4G or 5G. After the closure of the 3G network, these devices will no longer work. Phones that do not support VoLTE can continue to make calls on the 2G network, which will continue to work.

Tele2 recommends that customers review their devices and software in good time and update them if necessary. If possible, it is worth choosing a smartphone with VoLTE support, which offers better call quality and is future-proof. It is also useful to make sure that the VoLTE service is enabled in the phone settings and that the latest software version is used. For internet devices (e.g., dongles and routers), it is recommended to switch to newer devices that support 4G or 5G networks, which allow for higher speeds and are more secure.
