HD+ brings HD+ IP to Samsung Smart TVs

From April 2024, owners of newer Samsung Smart TV models will be able to receive German TV platform HD+ not only via Astra (19.2° East), but also via the internet.

With the move, the subsidiary of Astra satellite operator SES is increasing its reach in households without DTH satellite reception, for example in rented apartments.

This is made possible by the HD+ TV app, which is already integrated into many Samsung TV models. Over one million devices will now receive an update for HD+ IP reception. Anyone who owns a Samsung TV from model year 2021 with the HD+ TV app will then be able to use HD+ IP. The HD+ TV app will be updated automatically if the TV set is connected to the internet.

The update of the model series to include HD+ IP will start with the 2023 models and should be completed in May. New TV sets will already have the HD+ TV app for satellite and IP on board as a factory default. The HD+ TV app can be selected and activated during the initial installation process or later from the TV app store.

HD+ IP offers over 100 HD channels via the HD+ TV app, which are equipped with interactive functions such as restarting and pausing the currently running programme. The search function extends to media libraries and live TV. The offer is supplemented by an EPG, TV recommendations and favourites lists.

Viewers can test HD+ IP for one month free of charge – the test phase ends automatically. Afterwards, they can choose between a monthly subscription for €6 per month (via the HD+ online shop) or the purchase of a 12-month extension via prepaid voucher for €75 (in local retail stores or in the HD+ online shop).

HD+ users can also sign up for HD+ ToGo and receive HD+ on smartphones and tablets (Android and iOS). HD+ ToGo also allows channels to be transferred from the mobile device to a second or third TV set in the households. The bundled offer of HD+ for TV and HD+ ToGo is available for €95 per year (or €7.92 per month).

HD+ launched HD+ IP on Panasonic Smart TVs in November 2021, breaking away from DTH satellite reception for the first time. The collaboration with Samsung was announced in March 2022.
