MOBILE phone roaming rates are to be abolished from next summer, as announced by the European Union. Holiday-makers were given a huge boost with the announcement they’ll no longer be hit with huge charges when they travel in Europe.
The European Commission is planning to get to get rid of the practice in the EU by next summer.
EC spokeswoman Neelie Kroes said yesterday: “The EU has already taken action on roaming — removing barriers, making prices fairer, and introducing choice.
“I know many of us dream of an integrated single market. And in such a market, there’s no roaming.”
Concrete details of the plan will be announced in the next six weeks.
