Nawras, Oman’s customer friendly communications provider is celebrating after being awarded the “Operational Expansion Award” at the CommsMEA Awards in Dubai.
Led by Hussain Al-Lawati, Nawras Acting Chief Sales & Distribution Officer, Nawras people from customer service, sales, IT and marketing, attended the glittering event and enthusiastically greeted the winning announcement. Al-Lawati was thrilled to accept the trophy on behalf of everyone in the Nawras family and delighted to bring the trophy back to the Sultanate of Oman.
Nawras received this award for its successful transformation from a mobile operator into a full-service provider, which started with the launch of fixed services for corporate customers in May 2010 and continued with the introduction of Home Broadband and Voice services for residential customers in June 2010.
Home Broadband & Voice offers a number of flexible options and price plans, including postpaid and prepaid plans, weekly and monthly plans as well as the option of spend capping to budget and control broadband internet. Simply put, customers have the option of customising their own broadband internet plan.
In addition, the telephone connection is included free of charge with the Home Broadband & Voice service, contrary to other offers in the market. There is no installation fee or monthly line charge to be paid by Home Voice customers taking this service along with Home Broadband. Customers simply pay for the calls they make.
Since launch, Nawras Home Broadband and Voice services have had tremendous success. Nawras gained a 26% share of the fixed broadband market by the end of September 2011. Nawras is also proud to serve an ever increasing number of corporate customers with both mobile and fixed services, including large enterprises such as Oman Air, National Bank of Oman and Bank Dhofar.
To serve its Home Broadband and its business customers, Nawras deployed a fibre backbone network and WiMAX technology, the latter now reaching 87% of homes in the Sultanate.
In November 2011, Nawras, together with Tata Communications - a global communications service provider that owns and operates the world’s largest subsea cable network - launched the Oman to India TGN-Gulf cable. The undersea cable is being used to instantaneously route voice and data traffic from Oman to Mumbai (India) and onwards to the rest of the world, via the Tata Global Network (TGN). The new cable link offers enormous capacity for mobile and home broadband and high quality voice services, enabling Nawras to meet the growing demand for international voice and data services from its customers – be it in the form of calls or internet surfing.
In total, four members of the Qtel Group picked up major awards at this prestigious industry event in Dubai. In addition to Nawras being honoured, Qtel was named ‘Best Business Service’, while Nedjma received the ‘African Operator of the Year’ award and Wataniya received the “Middle East Operator of the Year” award.
