TELECOM COMPANY JOINS SAMENA’S BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Top
DUBAI, UAE — SAMENA Telecommunications Council has
announced that Saudi Telecom Company (STC) has joined as a SAMENA Member
and that the company’s president, Engr. Saud Bin Majed Al-Daweesh shall
be on its Board of Directors.
The Council, with its strengthening foothold throughout the SAMENA
region, continues to gain wide acceptance amongst key telecom players
and decision makers. Expressing his enthusiasm over the Council’s
goals and aims, Mr. Al-Daweesh said, “it is very important for our
businesses to work together to come up with solutions that would
accelerate our revenue generation. New telecoms challenges are emanating
from all directions, and it is imperative that we come to table
and explore our options…SAMENA can help us do that.”
Being a large telecoms operator in the region, STC is ideally suited
to represent operators’ interests and the growing need for introducing
infrastructure advancements. SAMENA’s Chairman, Dr. Mohammed Ali
Al Wohaibi, was quick to reiterate that "we have a team of
experts here who are pledging their support to SAMENA’s causes,
and who are willing to provide us with their time and insights.
It is great news for us. It’s great news for telcos and cellcos—their
interests are what we at SAMENA are trying to project."
SAMENA Telecommunications Council welcomes STC and Engr. Saud Bin
Majed Al-Daweesh.
STC, the Gulf region’s leading telecommunications operator, ranks
among the world’s top ten telecom companies. Since its establishment
in 1998, Saudi Telecom has consistently delivered value to its expanding
customer base and has reported strong growth. This has been achieved
through ambitious transformation and restructuring efforts, complemented
by network extension and enhancement.
Engr. Saud Bin Majed Al-Daweesh is the president of Saudi Telecom
Company, and brings with him more than 23 years’ experience in telecommunications
and leadership management. Prior to his current appointment, Mr.
Al-Daweesh served as the president of Al-Jawal, STC’s mobile business
arm. Under his able leadership and management, Al-Jawal’s customer
base grew to 12 million, generating more than SR23 billion in revenues.
Mr. Al-Daweesh has played a consistent and active role in the transformation
and restructuring of STC. He was also responsible for the creation
of the ISP Business Unit (Saudinet) for STC, and is highly credited
for introducing the Internet in Saudi Arabia. He holds a bachelor’s
degree in engineering from University of Southern California, U.S.A.
and actively attends specialized training programs, organized and
managed by renowned training institutions such as California Institute
of Technology, USA; INSEAD, France; and IESE Business School, Spain.
