ALCATEL-LUCENT MIDDLE EAST BECOMES A SAMENA MEMBER    


DUBAI, UAE - May 29, 2007 - SAMENA Telecommunications Council today announced the joining of Alcatel-Lucent Middle East to expand its member base.

SAMENA Telecommunications Council welcomes Alcatel-Lucent on board, and looks forward to the leadership's resourceful contribution to the Technological Committees & other active participation in SAMENA's various events.

Alcatel-Lucent operates in 19 countries in the Middle East, with more than 1700 employees. It is strongly present in the region having its Headquarters in Egypt's technology park, Smart Village excelling in delivering turnkey solutions throughout the market and is considered a long term telecommunications solutions supplier having been in the region since 1950.

Alcatel-Lucent plays a major role in building the Middle East telecommunications networks for many world-class incumbent operators such as Saudi Telecom, Q-Tel of Qatar, Telecom Egypt, Sudatel, PTCL of Pakistan and Maroc Connect as well as mobile operators such as MobiNil in Egypt, MobiLink in Pakistan, Spacetel in Yemen, Djezzy in Algeria, and Q-Tel in Qatar. In addition, Alcatel-Lucent is the trusted partner of regional and international operators such as Orascom Telecom, Etisalat and Investcom.

Alcatel-Lucent contributes in bridging the digital divide, supporting the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), whose member countries consists of the 13 Arab countries located in Western Asia Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Occupied Palestinian Territories, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syrian Arab Republic, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. The company works in cooperation with ESCWA to develop concrete projects: incubation of local developers of added-value services over mobile networks, development of broadband (DSL) access and applications, development of a market information system for farmers and fishermen.
