AzTelekom launches 4G LTE fixed broadband pilot project

State-owned telco AzTelekom has launched a 4G fixed wireless technology pilot project in the villages of Khulmayli and Gachi in the Khachmaz region. The company claims that subscribers will have access to the internet at speeds of up to 100Mbps and that LTE technology will be utilised in difficult to reach, rural areas of Azerbaijan going forward.

A plan to introduce rural areas with LTE broadband technology was initially planned in 2014, with both state-owned telcos AzTelekom and Baktelecom responsible for its introduction. Baktelecom has launched TD-LTE broadband technology around capital city Baku, but it is AzTelekom that has made the first move in terms of introducing 4G broadband technology to rural communities in Azerbaijan.
