Huawei becomes the world's 3rd largest mobile phone vendor

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei is on the rise recently. The company has just unveiled two flagship devices in the form of the P8 and Honor 7 and it will probably unveil another premium model at IFA 2015.

The device maker is offering good value phones which come with nifty specifications and affordable price tags, so it’s no wonder Huawei is seeing a lot of demand for its products.

Now, the folks at Strategy Analytics have published a report showing just how popular Huawei phones are becoming. According to their statistics, the Chinese company has overtaken Microsoft to become the world’s third supplier of handsets after Samsung and Apple in Q2 2015.

Sure, Huawei still has some work to do before it can reach the glory of Apple and Samsung, but the company’s growth is a visible one. Samsung holds dominion over the smartphone market with 20.5%, although a year earlier the company had a 22.3% marketshare.

Chinese smartphone makers are becoming a real threat

Apple comes in at number two with 10.9%, which constitutes an increase over last year’s 8.2%. As for Microsoft, things are not going that smoothly. The tech giant dropped to the fourth position with a 6.4% percentage of the market, a steep decline from 11.8%.

Rounding up the top 5 smartphone producers is Chinese OEM Xiaomi, which improved its grasp of the market from 3.5% to 4.6%.

The remaining 50.6% is attributed to others, a category which mashes up together companies like LG, HTC or Sony. While some companies are struggling to keep their mobile business afloat, Huawei is thriving.

The company shipped 30.6 million handsets in the second quarter of 2015, which constitutes a 50% increase year over year. The company is also said to have partnered up with Google for a next-gen Nexus device, so this too will help with the rise of its popularity levels.

Microsoft, on the other hand, is expected to unveil Windows 10 Mobile and to launch several Lumia devices from the flagship sector, but also the low-end to middle-range class. Redmond is also looking for partners to help it build more Windows 10 Mobile devices.

So, with the advent of its new Lumias, Microsoft might have a chance of gaining back the lost marketshare.
